How to swaddle a baby

Last weekend we had a great time showing family all of the finds we came back from the States with, including lots of clothes and some receiving blankets. We're slowly building up a nice layette for PJs arrival, including gifts from Bonnie & Dave (thank you very much!) - lots of terrific onesies, pajamas and the cutest hat and socks. The socks say "I love Daddy." Isn't that the cutest thing ever?

When we were looking at the receiving blankets we tried to picture exactly how to swaddle a baby. It was hard to imagine without a baby on the blanket, although when I watched the video online it made perfect sense... Thought this article and video might prove helpful (and adorable!) to others out there too. Enjoy!

I checked out the video and I remember doing that with our babies. I can see how the baby would be so relaxed...so snuggly:)

Callum loved to be swaddled, however, he was a wiggly little guy and always seemed to escape. We finally picked up an actual swaddling blanket (complete with velcro) that rocked our world. His naps started lasting a little longer during the day which for this Mama was bliss!! The one we got was made by Kiddopotamus. :-)

I just went to the Kiddopotamus website and love the Swaddle Me and the Dreamsies. I see they are available online or at Baby R Us and Toy R Us. I'll have to go and have a look@:)

Thanks Leah for the great tip! And Bonnie for the investigating! These look (and sound) divine. If the baby is as active as he seems now, I think this may really come in handy!

Love tips from other Mamas! :-)

With a springtime baby, you won't need to wrap him up to keep him warm as long as my winter babies! Definitely cozy for the length of time BEFORE he can turn over though! You can just make at least 1/2 dozen of these just by hemming all around a 36" (or so) flannelette square.(they get wet real quick, so make lots!) Lay him on the square just a little left of the centre, then fold the bottom point up to his waist.Next, bring the left point over past his tummy, then the right point over past HIS right side & then, tuck the extra around behind him, ending at his front. This version is for laying him on his back.
If laying him on his front, have the last corner ending on his back. This sounds more complicated than it is! The suggestion of practicing on the New Years Baby was a good one...but use a smaller square!

I'm sure PJs won't mind Mom - we'll just put 'em in nekkid under the blanket! Thanks for the step-by-step instructions though. You should check out the video - it makes it all look easier than it sounds! And check out the Swaddle Me wraps - they are great!
