Overheard - a stream of consciousness

I find that when walking with a sleeping baby many other sounds become more apparent, including the stray pieces of conversation that you overhear while walking through a crowd. Sometimes it's just a word or two, others it's a little more. For some reason today -actually, because I overheard a great opening line - I decided to pause and jot down whatever snippets I heard clearly above the din while walking 3 blocks on West Georgia. Each snippet from one person ends with ... and then the next begins.

So then he says... we cannot... to catch the bus... {Indian}... might go for a walk to get some fresh air... really can't blame 'em... yeah, yeah, that's what we keep telling ya... unless he's the one leaking sort of... {Korean}... and then I guess we all heard the same news... she's connecting and he's getting on the same flight... after... in the bar... one eighteen... oh, thanks... you are maturing and your skin is asking for a bit more. it's not that you're not a young lady... code eighty nine, level one... cancel eighty nine.

What I was struck by was the fact that this hangs together fairly well! It's exactly what I heard, in the order I heard it. Strange...

Love the stream - it would definitely be worth taking a small voice recorder (you know the "...parked my old rusty datsun in yellow 24..." kind). I know there are a number of audio albums out there just like this, day at the beach I seem to recall being a good one.

Guess what I did today (before I read this blog entry)? I tape recorded the sounds at the mall. Two separate recordings...one walking through the main mall and Superstore, then sitting in the food court. I'm hoping to use them to help Abner fall asleep - she loves to sleep at the mall.

Funny - the world must be in sync for us all to be doing these things! Or this exact amount of maternity leave has contributed to our states of minds in some way... I hope Abner likes her mall recordings - that's a great idea! :-)

Oh, and Jamie - I think I can get a free voice recorder if only we choose to order that PURSE THAT CAN CARRY A MILLION ITEMS (all caps = menacing voice of the not-too-distant future)... You know, the ugly black camera-bag-looking purse that can hold everything in your glovebox, trunk and fridge all in one?
