In the last few days Cole has really started babbling. He's saying one thing in particular that makes my heart melt - "mumum". Usually when he's very tired or hungry, over and over. Here he is last night after his bath, before getting his PJs on for milk and bedtime:
We're not really sure if he means me, milk or something else - or if he's just exercising his vocal cords with a new sound - but both me picking him up for a cuddle or nursing him seem to calm the "mumums" so I think he's asking for something... And when I pick him up and say "mumum is here" he smiles sometimes! I am chosing to think he means me, because it's just so adorable.
If you have older babies, when did they say their first word? Did you count stuff like mumum?

Yes, I think he is calling out to you, mama!
"mumum" is definitely a first word candidate! That is adorable, and of course he means you! He really is developing so quickly, crawling, talking.... he is brilliant!
Of course Cole's brilliant...he's
has great genes on both sides of the family!!!
Yay - two votes for 'mumum' meaning me and two votes for Cole being brilliant. I like! :-) Thanks!
Sounds like a countable word to me...better write it in your Memory Book! Its so cute :) you won't forget it, but you might have more words coming soon and they are hard to remember much later when someone asks what they were! I can't remember what your first word was because I didn't write it down!
Adorable boy!
I read somewhere that it does count, in a way, because the motion they make with their mouths when they eat - breast or bottle - is like "mamamamama". Most mums are the ones who feed them. So it's like lip smacking + vocalization, if that makes sense.
My older boy did this, esp. when he got tired & hungry. (Younger one not so much. He is all dadadadada and blahblahblah and SHRIEK!!!!)
First *real* word that wasn't an accident of the way his lips were moving together was about 10 months I think? And it was something ridiculous like umbrella or triangle. I wish I remembered.
Jamie will be over the moon once Cole can pull out the 'dadadadadada' moves. :-) I much prefer 'mumum' to the shriek - Cole was into that for ages, off and on. I'm hoping it's off now, because while cute at first it certainly is ear-splitting!
