hot chocolate + dinos

some days with small children include a lot of exasperation, counting to three, sweeping, and prodding through transitions. other days are a mixed bag of sunshine and looming rain clouds. others are the kind you really want to take note of, when they're sweet and lingering and special.

we had the best, simple, lovely day on sunday. among other things, we went to little nest off commercial drive, a familiar haunt, and had one of the most mature and simultaneously adorably childish meals. we three talked, had amazing sandwiches, coco enjoyed the grown-up lookingness of his hot chocolate and we staged several long dramas involving a few large plastic dinosaurs. dinosaurs eat steak - did you know that humans are made of steak? i love kid revelations. coco also may have inadvertently proposed to a small girl who he spent a great deal of time ignoring and then following around.

That cup looks gigantic in front of the little guy! He looked really thoughtful in that closeup with the dino...so cute! And who ever thought of such a thing as humans are made of steak...too funny!!...as Art Linkletter used to say on his TV show in the 1950s, "Kids say the darndest things!!"
