Last week: the round-up

This update is a little late... Cole and I have been having a terrific blast lately with this lovely Vancouver summer weather. Here's a little recap of last week's activities...

On Monday we went to the Pediatrician's office - our doctor had recommended that we get Cole's soft spot checked out, as she thought it was a little small. I was so happy to hear that it's perfectly fine! Apparently, the range of normal goes from 4x6 cm on the large side down to something that can't be felt at all. Cole's was palpable, so no worries. The Pediatrician was fantastic, and really made me feel at ease. He said that Cole was very trusting - what a wonderful comment!

Tuesday found us walking with Jas - twice - along both sides of the seawall at our end of False Creek. We went for sushi at Yanaki on West 6th - hoorah - although the remains of a stomach bug for me meant that I stayed away from my beloved salmon sashimi... After craving it for 11+ months, I passed up my first chance to get some! Yanaki makes the very best sushi in town, in my opinion, and they're so nice. Try the unagi, goma-ae and the snapper tempura salad.

We enjoyed a picnic at Sunset Beach and walk along to English Bay on Wednesday with Aiden, Mike & Mi ae. Such a gorgeous day. Cole enjoyed his time overlooking the beach from beneath the shade of a large tree, wrapped in a light blanket when he slept. Sun safety for the babies meant that we were chilly ourselves, and we ended up using our breastfeeding cover-ups as wraps! Of course moving to the sun later on as we strolled with our snoozy babies meant that ice cream was needed to cool off...

On Thursday we met up with Kim & Abby for a walk to Granville Island. Thanks for introducing me to the French restaurant on 7th Kim - great place! It was a freakishly windy day, but we persevered all the way to the Island and beyond. Exhausted after all the walking, wind and shopping, we tried to (and eventually did) take the ferry back - partially, anyway... The rainbow ferry that takes cyclists takes strollers, uncollapsed. But, first of all, it was unneccessarily difficult to find the right ferry dock. Then, turns out that the cycle ferry will only take you across to Hornby Street - not on the route all the way back down to Science World. So, we took the ferry across, walked up the steepest hill in town, I'm sure, and hopped the bus and Skytrain to get back. Got sassed by some teenage mothers on the bus - apparently I am old and bossy! (One of them almost trampled the carriage and I asked her to watch out). Oh well! Cole really like the rocking on the boat ride - there were lots of waves in that wind.

And on Friday we went raspberry picking with Jasmine and for lunch at Dave & Bonnies. Great lunch and a wonderful visit. Cole showed everyone how much he loves his play mat by stomping and laughing away as we ate lunch. He really enjoyed taking a walk with Grandpa out around the house, in the yard (where they peered in at us having our tea!) and to look at the Model T in the garage.

Saturday - finally got my hair seen too! Good gravy - I had last had that done back in February! They chopped off a few inches. I really loved relaxing at the salon - reading magazines, sipping tea and getting the head & neck massage. I actually dozed off a couple times during the cut! Towards the end I was getting anxious to get back home to Cole though - I left Jamie with a bottle of expressed milk and it was the first time I'd done that. I was worried that he wouldn't like the bottle, but of course when I got home Cole was snoozing with Jamie on the couch - he'd enjoyed his milk and all was well!

On Sunday Jamie and I did a big house-cleaning session (blech!). It was long overdue... I'm a tidier - I keep things straight, but I'm not one of those people who really enjoy scrubbing. Seriously - some people do! Even typing those two words together sounds outlandish! :-) We also did some work on our own projects, and I think we took a few walks. Seems a long time ago already!
