Cole takes a dip

On Monday Cole took his first dip in the swimming pool! We put on his swimming diaper and our bathing suits and went to the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, on Beach under the Burrard Street Bridge. Thanks to Sandra for the great tip! The Centre doesn't look too exciting from the outside, but inside... Man alive! It was glorious! They have a massive lengths pool, a high-diving pool and a lovely baby & tot pool that is warmed to a balmy 90 degrees.

It was lots of fun - for him and for me too - and he really enjoyed himself. He laughed, splashed a little and played with all the fun floating toys the pool had bobbing in the water - boats and balls and all sorts of fun things.

I didn't think I'd be able to get a photo of this first, what with being wet and by ourselves and all, but I brought the camera anyway. I'm so glad I did! After we'd been in the water for about 20 minutes or so we waded back out, grabbed the camera and took a couple quick shots for posterity.

The tot pool starts off at a zero depth and goes to 2 or 3 feet. Lifeguard on duty. They even have a family change room complete with a baby-holding table and a (rather odd-looking) plexiglass playpen for the busy Mama who needs two hands to take off her wet suit. Conveniently, I wore my suit there under my clothes but forgot to bring my underclothes, so I had to put the wet suit back on and wear it home... Putting on a wet suit is so complicated! There is stroller parking up at the front desk and .25 lockers too.

I have adored swimming since I was a wee one myself, and I had been eagerly awaiting the chance to take Cole in the pool for his first time. I was so glad that he enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to another dip in the pool with Cole next week and registering us for Aquababies classes. And going back one night solo for a good lengths swim and jump off a board! :-)

Hi Miranda,

Bonnie sent me the link to your blog last month and I just checked it out again! I love that you are keeping track so well of everything - sometimes I can't find the energy to note the moments! Love your advice too as James is going through things that you just went through with Cole. Hope to see you at Dave and Bonnie's again soon,

Lindsay (their neighbour)

Lindsay - thanks for reading & commenting! Good to hear from you! It's always a challenge to find the time with a baby in the house, that is for sure! I remember thinking that my maternity leave would be all projects and excursions! :-)

We'll be out visiting again soon and we'll pop by if you're there to say hello. I can't wait to see little James!
