thrills and chills

random stuff, in other words!  i was looking for a particular photo to post the other day and while i was searching caught all sorts of random august photos that i forgot about.  as a seasonal wrap up (slash: won't i be glad all my photos are online if i ever have a storage drive crash), i figured i'd better sneak these in before it's too late!

the last time our good friends kim, sean and abby came for dinner we got both kids into their homemade bathrobes (kim's version and mine) for an obligatory photo op.  never mind that it was august and 30+ degrees! adorable - now they are practically engaged.  ;-)

we took an excellent trip to granville island a few weeks back in the rain.  driving is easier and takes less time, but the skytrain and ferry combination is full of transportation-related excitement for coco.  we lucked out with a partially open rainbow ferry - leaning out the window - thrilling amounts of wet danger! and of course, once we get there there were accordions, macarons, fruit, toys and all manner of delights.

of course, the ride home is a little more challenging - tired kid/much heavy fruit/now i'm glad we're on the ferry without open windows/hey let's have donut holes.

coco took his first trip to the candy store some time ago.  it was surprisingly not a debacle and didn't involve any accidental thievery, tears or property damage.  we got a small handful of jellybeans and a lollipop.  truth be told, that's the least amount of candy i've ever bought in that store.

cole loves "riders" of all shapes and sizes, and on occasion i do spare a dollar to indulge him.  rare occasions - a dollar is a lot of money for 30 seconds on a germ mobile!  the 25 cent horse ride at our local choices is popular with both of us!

cole loves lemons.  and lemonade.  he's likely to be found sneaking lemons into our cart at the store and heard asking, "you wanna get some lemonade?"

we had a great trip to the reifel bird sanctuary in ladner with grandma and grandpa a while back.  cole loves feeding the ducks, jamie is always the most successful of us three at attracting chickadees and i am fond of dodging the sandhill cranes (though we were safe that day!).

and how do you kill twenty minutes in waiting room number 2 at the doctor's office?  i had to get a prescription refill and after traveling between the "good" clinic that had a two hour (!) wait, the clinic whose doctor wasn't in (?) and the random sapperton clinic whose doctor made we want to back to clinic number 1 (?!) it was not seeming like a fun-filled wait ahead of us. until we realized that there were plenty of tongue depressors and that examination gloves are inflatable.  and all that can be hidden in two seconds when you hear the doctor coming down the hall.

also, there is dressing up like pirates.

and trying on shoes!  and talking about what cats like to eat:
